A Child Advocacy Center is a place where all the
agencies involved in investigating a child abuse case gather to process
the case. These agencies may include: (but are not limited to)
Alaska State Troopers, Office of Child Services, Medical Provider,
Mental Health Provider, District Attorney, Tribal Welfare Worker,
Behavorial Health Provider, Advocates of Victims of Violence, CAC
personnel.
The organization has a set of procedures
that will be followed to insure that all information is gathered
correctly in a secure environment. Interviews are video taped and
observed by officals while only one interviewer interacts with the
child. Our Purpose is: 1) To streamline the interview process of
the child so only one
interview is done for all representative agencies
to prevent
re-traumatization of the child. 2) To provide families with counseling
and other services during and after the investigation. 3) To
increase convictions of sexual offenders.
