Staff at Alaska CARES help families find the resources they need to heal from the trauma of abuse. They believe that sexual abuse does not have to devastate lives, if families are willing to get the help that children need.
Alaska CARES provides sexual abuse evaluation services to children, newborn to age 18. In Anchorage they accept referrals from the Anchorage Police Department, the Alaska State Troopers, the OCS, and local physicians or mid-level practitioners. For children in the Prince William Sound area, referrals are accepted from the Troopers, local Police Departments, and OCS.
In Anchorage, detectives and social workers can call at 561-8301 to schedule time for an interview and/or an examination. Physicians and mid-level practitioners can fill out a Medical Referral form (available from CARES), fax it it to OCS Intake and CARES, and then make an appointment for the child at the CARES center.
Staff from Alaska CARES will contact parents to answer any questions.
Alaska CARES is located at 4001 Dale St., Suite 112 in Anchorage. Office hours are 8-5, Monday through Friday. Phone (907)561-8301. Fax (907)561-8170
